St. Mary's College of California Political Science Student, Gives Back To An African Community

It was a late afternoon and the clouds were gathering over Mount Kenya.

Nyeri is one of the County Government towns in Kenya.

It is lovely and in it, one finds women, men, young adults and adolescents hard at work.

I am glad, I managed to be taken around the different places and saw how dedicated to work people are.

This was part of my research and community immersion session that started in August. I am now about to compile all my reports. But, through it all I am so happy I managed to meet so many people who are so friendly.

I did research into Drug use disorder and how interventions are sought. Or, whether services exist. I then developed a plan to support communities to engage in understanding the threats paused by drug misuse. I hope to continue with more stories.

Towns or cities, open up many potentials I realised.

For Nyeri Town, the potential is seen in the rapidly increasing housing estates.

Did you know Lord Baden Powell was buried in Nyeri. I read about his works and times in Zimbabwe. Then, it was still called Rhodesia. South Rhodesia to be precise.

There is so much to catch up to in Nyeri. But, for me visiting that artisan workers and other hard working people was a climax of it all.

I hope you will, one day, come and visit.
